From Santa's Favorite Cookies, Best Recipies, Vol. 2, No. 76, Pg. 61

Notes

These are amazingly moist, chewy and sweet. This recipe makes 35 blondies.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 package (14 oz) caramels
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350°
  2. Grease 13x9 inch pan.
  3. Sift flour, baking soda and salt together in medium bowl.
  4. Beat butter and sugar in large bowl until creamy.
  5. Add eggs and vanilla.
  6. Beat until smooth.
  7. Stir in flour mixture, gradually.
  8. Spread about 1/2 of the mixture into the pan.
  9. Bake for 7 to 8 minutes.
  10. Cool on wire rack for 5 minutes.
  11. Melt caramels and milk in saucepan over very low heat.
  12. Reserve 2 TBL of caramel mixture.
  13. Pour remaining caramel over cooled bottom layer.
  14. Drop dollops of remaining dough over caramel layer.
  15. Swirl slightly with knife.
  16. Bake 25 minutes until golden brown.
  17. Cool completely on wire rack.
  18. Cut into squares.
  19. Drizzle reserved caramel over bars.
